The Pita is a local community exchange system which is used in parallel with euros in the area around Almeria. It can be used at four markets in the area, one in Almeria, one at Lucaienena de Las Torres, one in El Ejido and the one below in San Jose in Cabo de Gata.
Social money is used to help to stimulate the local economy. It is especially used at local markets where stall holders produce their goods locally. It helps to keep the money in the local area. If the equivalent amount was spent in a big supermarket it would pay suppliers from far away and some would be diverted to a dividend for shareholders, also far away, so less would be available to be respent locally.
